Is This Your Time To Start?

“Just waiting for the right time to get started”
How many times have you said something like this to yourself? You’re not the only one!
Many people wait for the “perfect” time to start their health and fitness journey, but this all or
nothing approach almost always leads to nothing ever changing.

I want you to sit back and think on other times you’ve said something like this:
When I get some new clothes
When I get a better job
When I get a different/new car
When I get new shoes or clothes
When I lose a bit of weight
When I get fit then I’ll go to the gym

How often did you follow through when the things you said needed to change actually did? I’m
guessing almost never, and you aren’t alone, because it’s very common for people to make
these “ideal conditions” before starting something meaningful to them as it’s easier and safer to not start than it is to fail at what is important to you.

Waiting for the “perfect time” is a justification or distraction I’ve seen people make time and time again because making meaningful change is scary and uncomfortable, so waiting for these perfect conditions is a common defense system against having to do the uncomfortable work.

“I could/would do that but” keeps us safe from pain and ridicule but it is also a statement that
denies yourself from your greatness and potential to achieve amazing things!
That’s why having the “perfect time” or an all or nothing approach will rarely get you your
desired results because there is no perfect time or perfect scenario to start. There will always be something that can or does get in the way.

Now at times you might get that “magic moment” where all the stars align and everything feels perfectly in place, and you take up the challenge of improving your health and fitness. Celebrate those moments, take in the feelings of power they provide, but don’t hold yourself back waiting for these rare unicorn moments.

Instead go, take command and create your moments! No one will give you those moments that
make you feel like the cosmos has aligned, search for them! Chase them down and make them
yours! Scratch, claw, chip away at what’s important to you!

You might see others around you who seemingly have it all together and think it’s much easier
for them because they have done this, or that, or have money etc and that they are different but they aren’t. They have done things the same way as I’m telling you now, by starting small! Take your moments and watch them grow into bigger achievements!

Your “perfect time” is literally right now! This very moment! Make this moment your beginning, your start and watch as one moment snowballs into many.
I know what you’re going to say “I can’t get started, it’s different for me that’s the problem!”
Thinking this way isn’t actually you starting, in fact without knowing it you’re jumping a long way ahead into your journey.

Let me give you an example: you want to get stronger so you start to research all the programs
you can find on strength training and all the different ways to do it. But that’s not helpful if all it is doing is paralyzing you and keeping you stuck, so maybe researching all the different ways to train isn’t your start. Maybe it’s something else like squatting to a chair ten times or pressing jugs full of water overhead.

Starting means initiating action, it means committing to a choice. This is how you actually start. Like when you put a coin into a pinball machine this is when you actually start, not when you decide which game you’ll play. So start small, put one foot in front of the other and make those small steps.

Lastly I want to give you one final piece of advice, you will feel some sort of resistance to
change when you decide to start, please know this is normal! You’re not failing nor have you
failed in your journey if you feel like this.

There will be times you over cook your food, forget your workout clothes or AirPods or your
body will ache when you’re exercising. These things are normal, it happens to everyone, you
haven’t done anything wrong or failed. Setbacks will always happen, keep chipping away, taking those small steps and slowly move towards your goals but most importantly don’t stop!
If you have to get support! Whether that’s in the form of a friend, a family member, pet or even a trainer help to keep you on track.

There isn’t one successful person in this world that has made it entirely on their own. There are no “perfect conditions” to get you started, but I promise you now, if you put one foot in front of the other you will see the success you truly deserve!
